A three phase approach. First, drill, build refineries and nuclear plants here in this country NOW! There's more oil in the Bakken oil fields inside our borders than in the entire Middle East. (http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=1911). Simultaneously, develop alternate fuel sources like hydrogen under a federally funded R&D project that has no shit oversight (citizen based) and transparency, with reports included in the State of the Union Addresses and a web site with a minimum of quarterly updates on progress. Federally funded doesn't mean run by the idiots in DC either. It means a team of the best and brightest from the scientific, engineering and business communities are tapped to provide the brain power again, with a citizen oversight committee. Kind of like the Manhattan project, but without the obvious issues.
And finally, again under a federally funded R&D effort, develop the real next generation energy solution. Formatted like the alternative fuel sources team.
This accomplishes several things;
Gets us off of foreign oil
Creates real no shit jobs and grows business
Begins to move us off of fossil fuels
Eventually moves us off of fossil fuels all together
But this'll never happen, cause the jackasses in DC can't see past their party’s ideology or the next election and the special interests that fund the campaigns.
If those "people" in DC really had our best interest at heart, they'd have shown it in this "Health Care" debacle. All they had to do was torte reform, portability and cover those without an income under the same plans that federal employees have, with others allowed to buy into the same plans based on their incomes. The free-market handles the rest. But nooooooooo.....we need a 2000+ page POS to completely screw things up!!!!
