95 Cobalt/454 Mercruiser

:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Little bit of torch/PB blaster/Hammer and wood block, and it spins.

Bores look glazed but not pitted.

Valve job, new lifters/pushrods, blast manifolds, new raw water pump, fuel pump, carb kit, and it's Lake Mead time.:D

iI you get a chance picts would be nice. My 455 olds has been sitting for 10 years in the jet boat. I'm assuming its trashed. Last time i looked all the aluminum pieces and carb were corroded through. I didn't flush the salt water.

The Rodeck will go there if it doesn't go in the vette.

As an anchor? (Now I'm busting your balls).

Noonie. The sea water pump is siezed. A new unit is $600. What am I looking at to rebuild it? What should I buy?

Not familiar with that one, it's not too common, but the pump part should be the same.
If the oil from the fuel pump cam reservoir smells like gas then the bearings themselves might be seized. Get the pump housing and impeller off first and see how bad it is. Normally the impeller etc should be replaced yearly.
You can get different rebuild kits, one includes a new plastic housing.
The end wear plates are critical. Be really careful to not scratch the shaft.
The big thing with those is the water feed thru the gimbal. Common to get really corroded, block flow and trash the motor.
Best to change to a thru hull or transom pickup with maybe an on board strainer.
Here are some links to parts etc. Not condoning suppliers or prices, just info.
Should be enough parts suppliers in So Cal near the marinas etc. Lot of places list themselves as spares not parts.

How about Cobalt Boat parts? It needs a few factory parts. I had NO idea this thing cost so phucking much. About $75,000 new.:crap::bonkers::bonkers::bonkers:

Gary68, not one drop of water in the stern drive.:yahoo:

Still don't understand how all that water got in all them cylinders....

and full up the sump, and where it came from....

:hissyfit:

Only one explanation Gene. Sabotage.:skeptic:

Too much trouble, so what happened, I read the thread, and never spotted the root cause....

gotta be a solution man....provable fail point....

and being as Eric's boat is much older and primarily saltwater/used....and we dunno the history of it, it's a Alpha ONE drive, and so dunno the differences but can say this....I not a Mercruiser fan for nothing....

:(

Good news on the drive, guess the water in the motor will remain a mystery.
On the pump, they normally dont supply kits with new bearings, just the impeller and plastic housing (on newer ones anyway).
That being said, I doubt they made their own bearings. You'll need a press to disassemble, then you might be able to find off the shelf replacement bearings.

I blasted and hot tanked the manifolds, and they look good as new.
Heads should be done by Friday. New lifters and pushrods are in the garage.
Gaskets, belts, hoses, and other marine parts are between here and Florida.
Sometime by next weekend, Ill know if the rings and bearings survived.
If not, the upper end is done, and I'll pull the bottom out. If it sounds good, then it will cruise Lake Powell later this summer.;)

Got the heads back today. $195 for a stock valve job with new seals. God I love living where I do.
