I met one upholsterer a while back here in Finland and he did my interior from real leather. Now he has started playing with different ideas to customize interior parts.

Here's one pic, any thoughts where to go from here? Upper background of the door panel is upholstered with real leather and only one piece is used.

Welcome to the motley crew of the Flying Dutchmen....

That man is good, nice work.....can you ask him, or do you know, how he fixed the upper white panel backing, attached to the main panel, that whole area had fractured the entire length of it on my '87, and so I found nothing to fix it with...it was a mess as a result....

:noworry:

I think I know what you mean mrvette.

This is how my door panel looked, upper part fractured to pieces:

I made backing supports from 1mm sheet metal:

Then just glued the pieces on one by one:

After new leather, this upholstering was cheaper than buying new repro stuff:

THAT was my thought process also...but I never found any glue that held that damn plastic GM used....I tried every damn glue I could find, too....

what works??....for that matter can you ID the plastic crap they used??

:crap:

I can relate on your issues for that plastic crap, I don't know what it is. I used 2k epoxy glue. I don't think it can hold for long though, because the stress for slamming the door shut is just too much. The hole factory design for attaching door panel like so is clever, but not everlasting. I'm thinking of adding couple pop rivets to my supports to help.

Did you know that repro door panels use more thicker plastics and that's why they won't fit so well.
