I am refurbishing the birdcage in my 68 convertible.
Hence I noticed that there is supposed to be 3 clips each side at the door sill reinformenct channel.
Marked #5 in attached drawing.
I only have one clip each side up front. What is the purpose of these clips, and do I need them?

Good question. My 68 has these and I always thought they were to fasten the trim panel. I just checked and the holes don't align with the trim panel holes. Maybe for side pipes? Not sure side pipes were available in 68 but I can't imagine what would mount there.

I dont think that they are or side pipes, as this was not an option for the 68 model.
Are these clips, or brackets, not attached to anything on yours?

The chrome rocker side piece attaches to them. It might be poorly drawn. Or, I’m completely off base.

Becoming more strange about the purpose for these brackets is
The molding is attached to the fiberglass rocker channels.

This is a C2 but is at least similar. I don't have a 69 AIM. The 68 AIM page shows the 68 only (2 piece) molding too. The molding on mine was attached to the fiberglass but is a later model molding.
