Lifting the body off a 1982

So if someone was to buy what’s left of the Vette, you could get it out of your garage and not have to spend a boat load of time in disassembly and shipping. My budget’s not in the greatest shape, but maybe we can work something out. I’ll send you a PM

Sorry I honestly don't feel like selling the whole car. I'm only interested in selling the suspension, engine, rearend, trans, rims, convertible parts. After that whats left goes to the crusher.

What a waste of a classic custom. Too bad it had to end up in the hands of a greedy owner who wants to destroy it just to make a profit. Enjoy your slow and boring C4.

Here we go !!!!!!! I was wondering who was going to get bent out of shape. Don't think of it as ruining a classic, rather keeping other classics on the road! You have to understand after borrowing a friends 90 vette for 3 weeks and enjoying everything about it, I was hooked on it! Trust me I had a great time driving this 82 but the 90 is a real world class car that does everything better and suites my purposes better.

You have your tastes and I have mine, Besides it was my ex-wifes car and I have no reason to rebuild it. I have a son that takes up all my time and thats a priority over a car anytime of the day! I think it's safe to say if you were in my shoes, you would do the same and get rid of headaches that only complicate your life.

No, I would sell it and not chop it. Spend less time trying to pull an extra couple hundred bucks out of the car by pulling the body off and the entire rearend out, sell the car whole, and spend more time with your son. Win win.

As for your greedy comment, I would say I am by far the least greedy person there is. You don't have any idea what I paid for this car and how much it costed to convert it. So where am I making a profit by parting it out? I'm only selling whats in demand then scraping the rest so I will lose a hell of a lot on the car! But like I said this car is not a priority in my life anymore the last time I did anything to it was like 8 years ago. Do you think after 8 years and nothing has been done anything ever will?

You know what you're doing, and so does everyone else on this forum.

I tell you what. I will back it out of the garage in two weeks and take detailed pictures of all it needs to be completed. You can all give your advice and knowledge on whats the best approach to fix everything. I will then decide on whether to part the car or complete the project.

The car does run and mechanically aside from very very few things isn't missing a thing. Only reason it is missing these things is because I had intended on serpentine belt drive, dual LT1 cooling fans, 84 air cleaner assembly of which I have all these parts now.

It's not a car that is missing all its stuff, I just removed it all when I started the project is all. What the interior needs is this the telescopic stuff repaired, carpet kit, door panel kit, dash pad & various trim parts. This was all removed because it was shot and beyond doing a quik fix by dying it.

Body work wise it actually needs very little. The paint was stripped for the sole purpose of starting off fresh and the car was going to be two toned white over silver with a silver interior. Originally it was a white car with tan interior.

This is a 100% rust free car (as far as I know) I dont even see so much as surface rust behind where the kick panels went, or where the wheel well access body mount covers are. The floor pans look like new and not even a sign of surface rust as well.

I have every possible thing for the convertible conversion except a soft top. While the car is now setup to accept one I just never intended on ever getting one for it. The car was going to be made for just sunny weekend drives.

To register it all it would take is a quik smog test all of its emmisions devices are still on it so passing shouldn't be a problem and a trip to DMV to pay it's fees. There no back fees on it since I PNO'ed it many years ago. Gas tank probably needs to be replaced from old gas.

Ok here are older pictures of the car but nothing has been done since these were taken except for putting the doors back on and removing the hood for the L-88 hood scoop install. The crap you see by the gas fill lid is just dirt on the car the rear bumper fits perfectly. I have all the other body parts and front bumper and headlight stuff, it was just removed for the stripping is all. I tried to make C-4 seats work in the car as well. The car was stripped using heat and putty knife and not chemically stripped. Needs some filled here and there but the largest part of doing the car is finishing the convertible grafting and the interior.

I am confused. The vents on the rear deck don't seem correct, and I am unaware of any GM Convertable C-3's. What am I missing here?
Is this even a crossfire?

Rag top C3?? you kidding for sure...68-75....right outta St. Louis....

the vents look correct, but the gas tank filler looks more like the '78+ location...

the entire deck area is a obvious patch in...:mobeer:

The car is a 1982 & yes it does have crossfire injection.

Some of it is 82, and some is not. Of that I am quite sure.

There were 18,648 base COUPES made, and 6,759 Collectrors edition made.
There were ZERO convertables made. These are facts, not speculation.

Maybe it's an '83.:wink::rofl:

Or the mysterious 1 convertible they made as a 83 shark but then changed their minds and changed the whole platform.

Or maybe Johnny Cash's song really inspired a factory worker to take parts and instead of building a cadillac he took parts from 71 until 82 and when he knew the C3 was going to end he slapped it all together.

I'm just gonna start auction at $1.00 no reserve

Make sure to post a link, I'll spread the word. Low start auctions actually do better, they encourage more people to watch and more people to bid. Hopefully for you several will have too much pride and get caught in a bidding war.
