Would have liked to see some pics of the build. Wonder how he got the specs on the chassis etc. Unpainted body is a nice touch. If he painted it most people would think its fiberglass.
Good questions. He lived in Italy (a long time I think) and was tied in with the automotive industry. So must have had contacts. Museum cars for study maybe?
