Misc Vintage Racing Clips

Wow, big money. Shocked that the GT40 went for $7million. Thought it would have some racing history.

I went to Barrett Jackson last year and was amazed at the prices for restomodded cars. The pandemic seemed like it beat down prices but its a stronger market than ever now.

The 1st L88 looked like it might have been a bargain compared to some of the others. :)

The gt40 details:

  • 1 of 10 factory competition lightweights produced, which includes the famed Gulf Team cars
  • The most sophisticated and winningest MkI specification example with its factory Gurney Weslake engine
  • Original body and chassis
  • Rebuilt original 289/440 HP Gurney Weslake engine
  • Rebuilt original ZF 5-speed manual transaxle
  • Restored to original 1969 factory specification
  • Original date-coded Firestone race tires
  • Authenticated by GT40 expert Ronnie Spain

If that GT 40 sold for $7mil, that car has to be 2X that, easy.

Yeah, especially considering the $$ spent on the video. Double celebrity car, McQueen and Sienfeld. Plus, movie car with race history.

Sienfeld owned it 23 years, he’s going to make out like a bandit. :)

You might recall on the Seinfeld show, there was a Skip Barber Motorsports sticker (not magnet) on the freezer. Jerry "got" that when he was at Skip Barber, and the agreement after he crashed so many cars (he could afford it) they wouldn't let him drive another - unless he did the "product placement."

Now you know, "The Rest of the Story."

And yeah - I'd love to have a 917.

Cheers - Jim

Never heard of it. Sort of a Pantera front end.
I worked with a guy that collected Cosworth Vegas. He had to sell them in the 80's when he got divorced.

Cosworth Vega, looked one over once, 4 cyl engine looked huge to me.

EDIT. Okay, I guess it was pretty big.

I think the twin cam heads wer pretty big but the engine was pretty small displacement. Never drove one but I don't think they were super performance cars. But people were buying 4 cylinder cars after the gas crisis. I tried selling a MG Midget that was converted to a race car in ~1974. I got calls from lots of people looking for an econo-box. Car had one seat, didn't have an interior, a top but did have a roll bar!
