My Next Project

Any recommendations for carrier mounting bushing? Rubber or poly? Or aluminum? I saw over at CF somebody had a front mount on the frame break off and someone blamed the poly bushing. It looks like it is hard to even find rubber bushings for the rear mounts. This is for the '81 diff I just bought by the way.

i use poly for the front diff mount and this is the only location I am preferring poly (had some really bad experience with poly bushings and body mounts). you can cut the poly diff mount to change the driveshaft angle, had to do this after the TKO install....

OK. more questions. I'm thinking about going with the Global West TAs and struts. Mike Dyer says the GW TAs are a quality product. But I'm wondering how much if anything I will be sacrificing in ride quality. I don't autocross but would like nice tight handling for the mountain roads around here. But I don't want to rattle my teeth on every bump. So you guys with the johnny joints on your TAs and spherical ends on your struts; did it make you car ride lumber wagon or did it just improve your handling?

I only test drove the '79 for maybe 5 miles after my JohnnyJoint install, so far so good... I also have the spherical rod ends and the ride is not harsh

I have the poly front diff mount..been on there for 3+ years(maybee 15k miles). Checked it out last week..looks like new. I also have the aluminum disks in the on the diff mount. No problems...btw, my BB puts out 535 ft lbs torque and I routine apply it. Every once in a while I will get some wheel hop.

I built my own struts with the spherical rod ends. Just did it within the last couple of months. Trailing arm bushings are stock rubber. I have a 330lb poly spring and billsteins as well. The combination is very tight and responsive. I have to say though that I don't notice a differrence from the VBP adjustable struts with the rubber bushings...only problem with the VBP was the rubber bushings which cracked and disintegrated over a couple of years.

Most of roads here are asphalt and in good shape so reallly no problems with harsh ride....however, the ride is harsher on those streets that need work.

Just an update. Picked up the sway bars at the powder coaters and mounted the front bar. Differential and trailing arms are on their way to Mike Dyer.

Ah, that pix of the rear sway bar reminded me of something, I picked up a rear bar for cheeep, it was missing the end links, I heated the ends and flipped the eyes 90* and used a front end sway bar kit with urethane bushings, it works fine....:bump:

Send it in early. I talked to Mike a few weeks ago. He has about 12 on the bench right now. He is one busy MFer.

Maybe he should be happy the economy is bad! If the economy was roaring, he might have 24 sitting on the bench!!!

One of the diff's is mine. It's for my 70. The innards are all from Tom's. Mike built my trailing arms and they are now setting in my bedroom awaiting the differential...wifey is gone visiting relatives in Thailand, so only me and the rabbit share the bedroom and the presence of trailing arms in the bedroom is no problem. BTW: the offset trailing arms are from Tom's. He sells them also, they...or at least mine... are not from another vendor. I'm sure it was Kenny who had them made. His trailing arms are pretty beefy. I think they were made for the 1000 hp crowd. 69427 would probably not be too happy. My trailing arms have the 30 (31?) spline Kick Ass half axles and also his billet aluminum brake caliper brackets.

Hmmm. Will a standard 68 through 79 cast iron differential mate up with the batwing? I have a batwing that I bought from ebay.

Of course, Tom tells us he has an aluminum version of the C3 cast iron differential casing under way. It's public release has been delayed for years now. Don't know if it'll ever see the light of day, although Tom has spent a tremendous amount of money on the project.

Yes, BeeJay has already done that swap. I'm not sure if he did a thread about it here or not. May have to look at CF. [/QUOTE]

I'm going with the Global West trailing arms. Mike highly recommends them. Who makes the billet aluminum caliper brackets.

Thanks Mike! You should be receiving a couple heavy packages today. ;)

And it looks like you got your computer problems resolved. Hope it wasn't too painful.

Yep a 68-79 iron diff will bolt up to the batwing

You'll have to cut a bit off the pinion bracket and change the struts and the half shafts too...
