Singapore F1 yesterday

Me and Dr. Ivor and his 1928 MG, boat tail racer, all original.

Just returned from the Singapore F1, I arrived thier on Friday
afternoon and spend two days Sat/Sunday at the track with a good
friend Dr. Ivor. He is avery involved with the Singapore/ Malaysia
vintage car club. The club for the past 5 years have organized the
vintage car parade of drivers. The vintage cars do a parade lap
around the track with one of the F1 drivers so the fans can cheer
for them without having a helmet on and in there race cars.
The order is as the qualified on Saturday each car has a sticker
with the drivers name on the side so the fans know who is in the car.
The weekend is jammed packed events including Ferrari, Porsche,
F2 and F1 races. Thursday and Friday are practice days but Saturday
they have the F2 race, Porsche race and qualifying F1 and Ferrari
classes. All on the same track and on time as posted. The Porsche
are loud and fast the F2 louder and faster the F1super fast and really
loud but the V8 Ferrari's are supper loud and faster than the porches. The vintage
parade of drivers is held 1 hour before the final F1 race.
Also during the racing there are 3 stage areas for bands and entertainment
for the price of the race tickets. Fire eating shows, acrobats,
magicians and free Tattooing all afternoon and evening. I recommend
to anyone that they should try to attend a the Singapore F1 race if
they get a chance. There is something for everyone, I had tickets
to the Porsche tent and reserved seating that was just below the big
Ferris wheel at the entrance of the pits that was a great spot and
there was a huge HD screen right there so you can see and hear what
is happening around the track. The Porsche club tent also had a free
buffet and on Sunday the hosted a brunch spread at the Mariana bay
Sands hotel and casino. At the end of the F1 race there were 4 diffrent
locations of fire works going off.

BTW for those that have never been to Singapore, there is no city
like it anywhere in the world its like Disney world with out the
Kid attractions. Supper modern and supper clean.

I recorded the race. Watched it and the recording cut off with 2 laps to go. I was pissed but then I realized that there was absolutely no passing during the race. That is what drives me nuts about F1. I live the technology but find the "racing" really boring.

The road circuit is really tight but there were many passing sections like Weber and Masser who forced his way past a few cars. And of cause MS plowing in the rear of the Frenchman. Ouch...............:crutches:

I have never been to a Nascar race but I understand it goes on for a week with similar events happening.

Been to Singapore a couple times on business. My co-workers and I used to chuckle that we could tell a local resident from an American a block away. The locals were usually slim, and the fat people were usually American. :amused:

Liked most of the food there until one time I scooped up a chicken foot from the bottom of my bowl of soup. The idea that it spent its life walking around on chicken shit, and now resided in my soup pretty much put a damper on my enthusiasm for the local cuisine.

Been there many times and my wife lived there for two years.

Singapore has no natural resources, and has to import water. It's only resource is the productivity of it's population. Lee Kwan Yue transformed post WWII Singapore, moldering tropical slum with food carts, street vendors, rick shaws, etc into the worlds most modern and super clean city. His secret for the transformation? He made it illegal to be poor. He banned food carts...if you want to sell food you have to have a restaurant (a few street vendor were allowed to operate in Hawker Corner.) He banned rickshaws...if you wanted to transport people, you had to be a taxi cab, etc.. Lee Kwan Yue was proud to remark that the rickshaw men who lost their jobs now have grandsons that are wealthy business executives.

It's the culture of the populace that determines a country's wealth. There's plenty of poor third world countries with fertile land, good weather, plentiful natural resources but the people are poor because they are uneducated, unskilled, and the government is devoted to corruption.
