this is on one of my project cars, but an engine is an engine, right?
so here's how it's laid out. i have one of those clear glass strainers just before my electric fuel pump (just to keep out the big trash), then it goes into my fuel pump. from there it goes through a real fuel filter, then a pressure regulator and out to the carb.
now what seems to happen is when i drive the car for 5-10 minutes, it will just suddenly lose the prime on the fuel pump. the pump is thumping like mad but i just don't get any fuel through it. i've had this happen several times and gone through various issues. i don't have a leak before the pump and i'm not pulling air and everything is tight.
what i found last night when it did it to me is that as soon as i tweek the regulator, all of a sudden it picks up the prime. this is a *new* regulator, i've had it for about 2 years but i just put it in the fuel system a couple months ago. i just can't figure out how a fuel pressure regulator would cause the pump to lose its prime.
any thoughts?
