SBG's C3

Upon further inspection - I think I can get the old parts off without damage (I think this has been apart - the bearings - before).

so, it'll cost 100 for bearings and 100 for ujoints.... woohoo, my Corvette is saving me money

:rolleyes::confused::hissyfit:

Corvette/cars in general, saving money??? :crap: I had to change out the overhead door spring this AM it went POW, and wife/I thought the door got hit, then the opener could not lift it...:crap: but I kept one old spring and so changed it out....about 1.5 hours....:bomb:

For real yo! The only time my corvette saves me money is when i pick up a cheap date or the dollar menu at wendy's hahahaha... ;)

I figured that'd get a rise out of you guys

I bought all the bearings and such at Napa - get this, I have to wait for the seals until 2pm this afternoon!!!!!! what a bunch of pansies.... apparently their ship from China comes in faster than MidAmerica's

(joking, Japanese ship - bearings, American (imported from Detroit))

So I've kind of been waiting for parts, but got some stuff done....

it leaked, twice... hopefully this time it's fixed (where the reservoir attaches to the mount)
P1230001_zpsf0895c5c.jpg

don't get me started on how much of a PITA it is to remove these things
P1230002_zps2929d833.jpg

fix some mounting holes
P1230004_zps69b8e719.jpg

remove the quiet, yet highly restrictive mufflers
P1230005_zps80513185.jpg

install max flows (things will be louder)
P1230006_zps5cbc829e.jpg

inside shot
P1230007_zps7122c46a.jpg

also tested my new blast cabinet

woohoo my Van Steel arms are here... now to just find time to put them on and get my car off the lift..... :gurney:

At least you HAVE a lift......:banghead::gurney:

You didn't get the lift as part of the President's health-care package last year? The Health Care Portability act allows certain citizens to get lifts - apparently, they've found that when people roll around in the dirt, they become politicians. In an effort to clean up politics, and to provided needed dollars to Chinese lift makers, the lift package came on as a rider on the HCPAA. It expired last week.

Only politicians and lawyers realized the benefit and applied successfully and on time.... sorry about your luck, man.... maybe next time :tomato:

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

a bit more tonight
Van Steel trailing arms.... saved 100 by installing johnny joints myself (requires some modification to the arm)
P1240001_zpsf373a8ce.jpg
I'm also going to install upper mounts for an upper control arm and eliminate the driveshafts as suspension components

I'm a big fan of not burning.... so I wrapped the new mufflers
P1240002_zps45ac8845.jpg

P1240003_zps00208eb7.jpg

sharp eyes will notice a zip tie holding the wrap in place. Yes, it's that good - the plastic won't melt (melts at 400*)

Heck those old inserts aren't restrictive - you should see the Hooker reverse flows - like 1 3/4 tube. Probably works OK on 70's smog motors but nothing that pumps any volume.

Grampy

that is a reverse flow on the left

I had such great plans today - get the Corvette on the ground.... had a slight break going to rescue some overdue snowmobilers - so I didn't quite get done what I wanted... ah well

need to remove the tube

to install this
P1270004_zpsbbb64dee.jpg
a bit of work and it fits
P1270005_zpse4e5c550.jpg
round 2
P1270006_zpsc5552509.jpg
P1270007_zpsdc166382.jpg
a bit of welding
P1270008_zpsc7d3b66d.jpg
a bit of creative engineering, (yes, the bolt goes through my welding bench) to get the snap ring back on
P1270010_zps701968e9.jpg
and drill and tap for a zerk fitting to put the fitting where I can actually get a grease gun
P1270011_zpsfbaf384d.jpg

also got the rear differential back in (for now)

While you have the chance, put an extension on the grease fitting. It will make things easier.

I don't think I'll need it, your post about a grease fitting was what gave me the idea to put the fitting there, but the Van Steel arms have a window cut which gives me a straight shot at the zerk fitting.

The fitting is going to end up right between the shims, inside the frame pocket.

LOL... and this is coming from the guy who did not add the fitting at all.....(me)..... if my joints wears down and I have to take it apart I'll add the fitting then..... hope this is going to be a while to that point.....

I put the arm in place, and it looked like I could lube it.... that said, if it doesn't, I'll fix it and post what went wrong on here...

the one thing I am concerned about is hydraulicing the joint apart when I grease it

more progress
P1280007_zpsb39a0df9.jpg
by far the easiest way to get these things together

temperature for POR 15 is +40 degrees.... my shop is 30 degrees, so hopefully it doesn't burn the paint too badly
P1280008_zpse34c4f52.jpg

note the lack of a cotter pin in the nut? that's the way it was on the car
P1280009_zps67aa16bc.jpg

bright side is the bearings may be relatively new, so I'll simply replace the seals and call it a day

and MidAmerica and/or Ecklers is getting richer
So I checked the runout on the rear bearings.... which was a waste of time
P1290001_zps60815d4e.jpg

what this picture doesn't show you is that I took the nut off without needing to loosen it - what you can see in the picture is my next Corvette purchase..... who knew that blanching could make curves
P1290004_zps58fe93dc.jpg

until I bought this car, it was stone stock - and I suspect this happened before I bought it
P1290005_zps97057a15.jpg
also notice the nice rust color.... strangely the bearings were neither noisy nor crunchy

while the passenger side spindle dropped out (literally), the driver's side took a bit more convincing (20lbs of convincing)
P1290006_zps233398ab.jpg

picture of how the brake shoes go together.... thinking I might need to replace these

you musta got the high performance reverse flows. These are what ya call restrictive - maybe turn 5K thru these.
