Making my own electric car.....

I'm 6'2

And I think I'm still getting taller. I hope I don't get much taller though

Damn a bunch of giants. You can't fly a fighter jet if you are that big.

Probably have joint problems too......like a big dog does.

Joint problems are the result of the years and years of beatings that we dish out to short guys like you. :D

i'm not worried, you'll never catch me with that car up on blocks all the time.

Ahahahahahahaha! There's some motivation to get my ass in that 95 degree garage and put the new HGs on!

Gene is 3 inches taller that me. Hell, I'm starting to feel like the runt of the group.
No, I'm only 6'1"

Didn't Randy Newman write a song called "Short People" just for us?

He's written a song about everything.

...Lunch!
Oh lunch!
Let's all eat a bunch of lunch!
Cuz I'm huuungry,
Yes I'm huuungry,
Let's all eat a bunch a bunch of lunch!

How old are you?

I was 6'2" when I graduated from High School..............
then I grew another 2"...............became a bean pole...
wasn't till after I got married at 26 did I start gaining any weight.

I left school at 17 to join the air force and I was 5'8". I joined as an Adult Entrant and so was only entitled to one issue of uniforms, unlike apprentices who were expected to grow - they could have as many uniforms as they needed.

By the time I was 18, I was 6'1"... :skeptic:

Jeff, those cars look great, but how long before the government levied an "excess electricity" tax or a "lithium" tax?

17......................( ahd to make it 10 characters)

http://www.teslamotors.com/

If this was 1/2 the price, I would finance one.

Tell you what, like to have that damn motor they using there.....

it's sheer size makes me wonder about how effective two golf cart motors will actually BE.....

They are claiming 240 HP, That would have to be RWHP at gear reduction. A 200 HP motor 3 phase would be quite heavy. They are stating 115 lbs.

duh, refer to post 3.

I don't TRY to be an asshole. I'm really trying to help.:goodevil:

Jim, If I want an electric car, I'll wait for the Volt.
It would be nice to convert an S-10 to electric. A/C would be the way to go, as it is brushless, but a 100HP freq drive is $$$$$. Hell, even a 40HP freq drive is $$$
The whole 185KW=110lbs doesn't add up, unless they are using the 14-1 low speed to calc. But THAT still doesn't make since. Even overdriving the freq to 90 or even 120htz.

Unless they are using pk hp at locked rotor current. That would divide the current by 6 (approx)
That might put it at 60 HP, maybe 110 lbs with alum windings/ case.

if they have some way of increasing the voltage, that would allow the motor to be very compact and lightweight.

maybe when you step on it the voltage goes up to 2000 volts.

like a gas engine, it only needs to produce max hp for a short time.

For Gene to have any chance to make 2 golf cart motors move a passenger car, he could quadruple the voltage during acceleration then go back to rated voltage at cruise. For something that doesn't get used much it would probably hold up.

Yes and no. higher voltage=less amperage per HP.
A/C motors react to freq. 13,000 rpm at 120 Htz would be a 6,000RPM base speed.
It's 3 phase, 4 pole (They state)
I'd love to see a schematic of the drive unit(Controller)

That might work with a DC motor. Speed varies by voltage.
